Papa Laser

Rob's amazing Dad, Robert Arthur Stratton also known lovingly by his grandkids as Papa Laser passed away on May 2nd. As we are now in August, it has taken me some time to figure out exactly what I wanted to say and I still don't feel that my words are sufficient in describing the incredible man he was and how much we miss him but I do want to try...

Things I will always remember about Bob include:

…How he loved Patty and his kids with such sincerity. It was clear from the moment I met him and Patty in 2017 how much he loved her. We sat on their back porch and over dinner I remember thinking how wonderful they both were... both so kind and both so welcoming.

… His love for sharing stories. Over the past years, I have so enjoyed hearing about their memories together as a family in Europe and I have loved watching him and Rob talk about his years as a pilot in the Air Force. Rob loves all things flying and I know this is because of how much he admires his Dad and the hard work and dedication Bob gave for our country (and their family) through his time serving in the Air Force.

…How he was the most amazing grandfather. I'm so thankful that Robert got to meet him. He would call Robert "RD" for Robert David and I thought that was really sweet. I hope Robert inherits qualities from Bob through Rob like his hardworking nature, his leadership, his kindness and love for his family. It is an honor to have named our son Robert after his dad, grandfather, and great grandfather.

… How he welcomed me into their family with such warmth and kindness. After Rob's 34th birthday Bob sent me the kindest email. Rob and I weren't yet married but I remember already feeling so welcomed into their amazing Stratton family and so cared for.

Both Rob and his brother Chris spoke at Bob's Memorial Service. They both did an incredible job. It was a beautiful service that highlighted what a good man he was and how much he lived his life honoring God and his family. He was one of a kind.
